AABCA presents “A Night of Shining Stars Gala”

October 23rd, 2010 · No Comments ·

Join the Celebration! Dance, Laugh, Sing, Live and Make a Difference!

October is associated with the beginning of our organization and marks a milestone celebration of courage and perseverance. In October 1990, nine African American women, breast cancer survivors and concerned friends founded the AABCA, a not-for-profit organization in Minnesota. AABCA is dedicated to providing lifesaving information, empowerment and peer support to African American women and men survivors of breast cancer. Because of the high mortality rates of African American women, AABCA also serves to educate the public about the special needs and issues facing African Americans with breast cancer. The AABCA continues to bring awareness about the dreadful impact of breast cancer on African American women locally and nationally. October is also National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The African American Breast Cancer Alliance will celebrate its first 20 years on Saturday, October 23rd, 2010 hosting “A Night of Shining Stars Gala” at the Hilton Garden Inn, St Paul, MN. This will be an evening of elegance and fun shared with over 250 attendees who will enjoy networking, a resource fair, entertainment, and awards dinner to honor cancer survivors and remember those whose journey was ended by cancer. We invite you to share in our notable accomplishments, 20 year anniversary, and recognition of our many “shining stars”, cancer survivors, collaborators, supporters and our vision for the future. One of our special awardees and shining stars will be the Carol Fitzgerald Memorial Fund, founded by the family and friends of Carol who was a dedicated member of the AABCA before she was stricken with breast cancer and later dying at age 50. Her family and son, Larry Fitzgerald, Jr., of the NFL Arizona Cardinals are committed supporters of our organization. Cancer has affected us all in many ways. Yet, we will continue to dance, laugh, sing and live in spite of this disease. On behalf of our members, we thank you for your concern, time and support. We could not do this without you!
